Witnessing the ‘hoverboard-mania’ gripping the nation, I decided to get a hoverboard for myself and use it to travel to work, which is a few blocks from my home. It might not seem too much, but thanks to the traffic, it takes me more than 30 minutes to arrive at my office when I commute by car.
Buying a hoverboard in USA isn’t difficult; you can buy one online or from various stores countrywide. I bought mine online as it was convenient.
The hoverboard arrived within a week; it was matte black with sharp styling. It had LED lights, striking red highlights on the black body and looked like a supercar on two wheels.
The hoverboard even had Bluetooth speakers and came with a remote control that offered many functions such as turning it on/off and locking/unlocking it.
I connected my phone to the hoverboard to test the speakers.
The audio was clear and loud, but I probably won’t use the speaker much as I’m more of a ‘headphone’ guy.
A lot of people prefer to buy hoverboards from USA because of their prices.
I got mine for about $300, while similar models sell in Europe for over $500 (> €450).
That doesn’t mean all hoverboards are inexpensive. (One hoverboard that I found online had an asking price of $700!)
The next task was to learn how to ride it.
I don’t have very good balancing skills, so I reckoned it would take me a while before I managed to ride one. But that was not the case in reality; the hoverboard was quite easy to control once you manage to balance yourself upright on it.
My roommate, who knew how to ride a hoverboard, offered to help me and soon enough, I was capable of riding it without using the wall for support.
The next day, I showed up at work on my new hoverboard.
Looking at me, many of my colleagues decided to get one for themselves as hoverboards are more convenient than cars for short distance travel.
I now use it to go to work and for other short trips.
Moving around has never been this easy!
